The management of water resources is often done at the basin or sub-basin scale, which is often not detailed enough to adequately evaluate the water needs and challenges of various social groups. The design of water management analysis is often based on sectors like agriculture, urban, and energy, rather than on the individuals and families who make up water users. This is often because decision-makers don’t have enough information, data or tools to do so. The result is an analysis that may reinforce existing inequalities.
We want to help water managers to avoid the inequalities that can occur as a failure of water policy design. We want to introduce a more distributed design at the heart of water management to change the story towards an equitable and sustainable water management.
