Examining Water Security Vulnerabilities – Cambodia

On September 17, 2018, the Sustainable Water Partnership (SWP) project hosted the Vulnerability Workshop for the Stung Chinit watershed in the Kampong Thom province of Cambodia. The Vulnerability Workshop represents an important step in the Robust Decision Support (RDS) process to assist stakeholders in adaptation planning. The workshop included 53 participants from local and regional organizations.

The main preliminary results presented in the Vulnerability Workshop were the impacts of the anticipated uncertainties on watershed performance metrics. The uncertainties include climate change, land use change, and population growth change. Because uncertainties can occur in tandem, the suggested uncertainties were combined in the WEAP modeling for a total of 80 scenarios. The results of these scenarios are displayed in Tableau Public showing the between rice production and preserving healthy flows for fishing.

We’ll continue working with local stakeholders in refining the WEAP model, identifying key scenarios, evaluating potential strategic and sustainable water security options.
